Pushing into the third dimension

One of FracRove's main features is its ability to see beyond the conventional two-dimensional view of the Set. We start our journey out of 2D with the Genius Level of play. Here's how:

  1. Click on User Level on the Control Panel.
User level button
  1. FracRove displays the Level of play dialog. Choose Genius.
  2. You'll get an explanation of what happens at that user level, and a picture showing the multi-dimensional aspect of the Mandelbrot Set. Click OK.
  3. FracRove displays the Dimension Pusher panel:

  1. Select which axis along which you want the Set pushed, in this example it's the A-axis. Click on the Positive or Negative direction buttons. (In the example the Positive button was clicked seven times.) The picture below shows the Mandelbrot Set at 0.7 along the A-axis.

  1. If you save each picture at 0.1 along an axis you can use a graphic program to stack them and produce a picture like that below:
Stacked 3D Mandelbrot Set
  1. This is the Mandelbrot Set pushed along the B-axis in 0.1 steps. Each picture in the the stack was saved to a BMP file then imported into PaintShopPro where I used the layer feature, and perspective/skew distortions to produce the stack.
